So have been thinking for a while that I kind of want to do this whole photographer thing.
Turns out, it is a lot harder than I thought it is going to be and I am not yet there.
After spending a lot of time online, mainly Facebook where I have joined a few photography groups and also google search. I have discovered that there is a lot of work to be done before I can call myself a ‘photographer’.
Firstly there is the business side. I have never been interested in studying business which, quite frankly, is a bit of a bore. However, it is quite a necessary evil, especially if you want to start your own business.

The Facebook groups have been an invaluable tool. Helping with anything from working with potential clients, editing tips, what gear to take through to critic of work.
I am looking into some online business classes but have taken a few tentative steps in the right direction. I have a website and the beginnings of a portfolio. I have a PayPal account and booking site to take reservations and payments. I have model release and contracts drawn up, thanks to JotForm. There is a professional Facebook page and this blog. Guess what, I am not a tech guy in the slightest, not only did I set this up myself but I got everything linked together so you can view all my work through either media source.
I’ve still to figure out what services I will provide, pricing and how to deliver the photographs but it is a start.
The next stage is to get some learning in place, practice lots and build a portfolio. Then, and only then, can I begin to consider charging for my services.

Now, anyone fancy to have their picture taken??
