Well, today the weather has been glorious. I have had a day off from work to enjoy it, too.  

So what is a girl to do…..??

Take her camera and 50mm prime lens out of course!!!! 

First stop was to get an iced coffee ☕️, a must when the weather is so nice. I get my caffeine fix (believe me I need my daily coffee or else I am a miserable soul for the rest of the day) and a nice cool drink. Bargain!!!

While in the coffee shop and making use of their free, albeit very slow WiFi, I watched a couple of training videos from the Tea Break Tog. I love her blog. Such amazing pictures and I love her style of candid, documentary photography. 

I participated in one of her webinars on portraiture in natural light which was so easy to follow that I signed up for her full course on natural photography. 

I am drawn to the simplistic nature of natural light. Sometimes simpler is better, and sometimes I can’t be dealing with all the fuss of trying to mimic a studio setup (especially when I don’t have a studio of my own). 

After, I went to my local park. It is small but lovely and becomes very packed during warmer weather. 

As I sat enjoying the sun, I listened to a few of her lessons and I took out my camera. Her lessons are audio so you can listen and do at the same time. 

I decided to go back to basics by doing a manual photography master class. After all, if you don’t know the basics how is everything else going to make sense??? 

The lessons covers where on achieving correct exposure and metering correctly. She talked through what settings she advised (f4 shutter above 1/60s, ISO 100 and white balance either cloudy, daylight or shade). 

This was followed by practical session, going through each setting, how to meter the light and each metering mode. It really was a great start. I thought I knew some of the information covered. Guess I am not too knowledgeable to learn anything new 🤓
